Very well said D.
What you said about China's economy is very true. I wish I knew what i knew years ago, and I would be stupid rich right now if I had invested. Russia has more a chance than you think, and it would not surprise me if their run back to the top was very successful. I understand your mention of Turkey, and shows how well read you are. Their GDP number is higher than Saudi's last time I checked. If you can elaborate more on Turkey, or send me on the way to better info on that subject than awesome. I appreciate it. Brazil is another economy I'd keep an eye on. |

Right, I'm headed to work but I'll leave you with this; Turkey has the 17th largest economy in the world and is actually posting small to modest games, not some of the outrageous numbers that other countries are throwing out there. Makes their growth much more stable. Politically speaking everyone is concerned about Iran becoming the next big challenger in that region, firing up the Arabs and all that. Then there's the fact that only Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Bahrain are Shi'a majority countries while the rest are predominantly Sunni. There's also a natural mistrust or rivalry between Arabs and Persians, but in the past the Turks have blended in or become the dominant group in this region, and right now are a stabilizing force in that region.

Just to throw my support behind the Shock Doctrine of this announcement and Haiti, they called a special session to make SURE the announcement was made when it was, instead of waiting a month for their normal session.
So yeah. Finally, I DON'T believe this has anything to do with America's decline as an empire, despite all the clamor about that. Debs is right that China will sag under its own weight, and it would take them more time than they've got to become the dragon they want to be. What this has much more impact on is the erosions of our personal freedoms, of our privacy, and of our government's ability to protect our interests as a people, which has been teetering on the brink for some time I'm not saying this problem is new - I'm saying that allowing the Supreme Court to codify that into the law is a level of hubris and openness about their plans that I never thought we'd see.
