This has been a great day.
I already have a directing gig that has me busy now through mid-October that I landed a week or so back. But today I accepted an offer to act in a show that picks up immediately after that and carries me through the end of the year. AND it'll be my best paying gig yet. And I've learned of whiskey beer in a squirrel!!! Can this day get any better?!

Yay for Josh! Aww or Cavan!
I have until late October booked up so far, but none of it paid, alas. Still, it's 24/7 life in a day today, so check out youtube because I'll be filming stuff for that. AS WELL AS the last two performances of Alice. AS WELL AS the Tramlines Festival in Sheffield. AS WELL AS the Summer School starting on Monday. AS WELL AS the two video jobs I've just landed. Things are busy as fuck here basically, but unusually with all the good stuff. Laters

Yay for happiness! If I can take a moment to join in, this is where I'm going to be next weekend:
That said, it's not whiskey in a squirrel, but I'm pretty stoked.

So I'm doing the crucible summer school, which I thought was gonna be a bunch of workshops and what not, but has ended up being a play. The director running the summerschool is a bonafide professional who did Lord of The Rings in the west end. I seem to have impressed her and she looks to have taken an interest in my career, which is great. Further to this, one guy didn't learn his lines and so she called me at 2pm yesterday to ask if I could learn another part. So in two hours I did as much as I could and turned up to the tech, which meant we didn't actually have opportunity to run lines . So I have one rehearsal in which to play this guy before the show goes up. Classic Rob. Lol.
So I hope this impresses people who watch as much as it seems to have impressed those involved. Heh. The play is The Laramie Project and its a one night only affair. I've nwver done Verbatim before and indeed, never really done naturalism for the stage. So a lot of new stuff has been added to my cap now. Finally, I made a formal proposal to the sheffield theatres for an idea of an open air Shakespeare next summer, so I'm waiting to hear about that. If it comes off it could be huge.

We call our shakespeare open air thing "bard on the beach." Guess where it happens?
Do about 4 different plays a year.

If this takes off I know what I'd call it and it's alliterative too. Heh. Today is show day, and we've only had one full run prior to the show, so I'm definitely gonna be running all my lines today to make sure they're in my brains ahead of the show. I'm more nervous than usual about it, despite the fact it's a summer school show and therefore not meant to be like a 'real show'. At the same time, it'll be going on my resume as if it were a real show, so sucks to that. Heh. I'll let you know how it goes anyways. We had 36 hours rehearsal time in total, which I find to be very impressive.

Assuming Laramie is as well known there as it is here, that should look quite good on your resume - considering the work/line-load you've taken on. Should tell prospective directors/producers you can handle future heavy work-loads.

I think it's known among theatre people certainly, though I wouldn't say AS well known as it is over there (apparently it's the most performed play in America?). But yeah, it can be said it's characteristic of me and my parts to have a high line-load, as it were, and to work on short notice- though the latter part isn't necessarily expressed on the CV. I should email you my CV if you wouldn't mind Josh, so you can see what you think?
As for the show, it went really well, for my part. Only a couple of people forgot their lines and only one ended up needing a prompt. It wasn't a fair representation either, because the person who needed the prompt is really very good and very genuine in her portrayal, which was unfortunate. However, I managed to get all my stuff out there without too much trouble, and I had three very distinct characters to get my teeth into. After the show a lot of pepole, moreso than in any other performance I've been in, were saying how well I'd done, and that I'd stood out from among the crowd (there were 30 actors, heh). That's especially good because there were a lot of very good actors in the show- a drama teacher, a guy doing a degree in performing arts, a guy who'd been doing it 20 years in particular were all very good in my opinion. So yeah, a real big boost to my confidence as an actor in a great many ways. Seem to be generating a lot of interest in Much Ado already too- hope it'll be a success!

I have a job interview on Monday. The problem is my boss and one of the other assistant managers is on vacation. So I have to work tomorrow. Get down to NYC and then back up immediately after the interview to be at work on Tuesday. Bummer.
