Based on current ability.

So let's say, Sonnen does not decide to take down Anderson: who'd you think would win? Silva.

BJJ? Did Sonnen even try a submission? He almost got caught a few times, till he finally got stuck in a triangle. He and Fitch are very similar, only thing he does more is throw more fists.

My problem with Sonnen is that he is one dimensional.

BJJ, boxing and Muay Thai is a part of the MMA game, and he has none of that compared to most.

So I think it is valid to say he sucks at MMA so far.

The fight sucked, period. The ending is what makes it great, because it was obvious that based on the current points system, Sonnen (unfortunately) was going to win. But Silva did what he did, and I am a happy camper.

I am glad Sonnen is not champ. He would be another GSP, only worse. I would have never ordered a UFC PPV for Sonnen, if he kept it at his current status. Hell no.

I can see where your coming from more in that post.

But still, Anderson can beat virtually anyone standing up. If your game isn't on the feet than it would be stupid to stand with Anderson Silva. Vitor Belfort might be one of the few MW's in the world who should even consider it trying it.

He is one dimensional, but I can understand wrestlers whose bread and butter is wrestling, you do what you do to win and if the other guy doesn't like it he should learn to stuff a takedown. I think as fighters they have to do what it takes to win. Just as much as Sonnen should learn stand up and BJJ, there are fighters out there who need to learn how the hell to stuff a takedown or else they'll forever get beat by wrestlers.

Results don't lie and Sonnen beat some of the UFC's best middleweights after beating Paulo Filho in WEC who was at the time considered the 2nd best MW in the world. And he almost beat Silva, so I can't blame him for using the gameplan he uses, even if it isn't that exciting for me to watch.

Well let me rephrase. When I said "exposed" i didnt mean it as a bad thing. he proved Silva has a weak spot. Now we all, Sonnen included, said that if it came down to standing up, Sonnen didnt have a chance. But he did exactly what he needed to. When he was on the ground, he had the fight won. Simple. Yes, it would have went to decision, but how many people have you seen do that to Silva? No one. You can't necessarily say Sonnen sucks. 26-10-1 isnt a record for someone that sucks. He was constantly on Silva. yes, silva is an excellent striker. We all know that, so did Sonnen. I could hit someone once in a fight, give them a cut above their eye and cause them to look like they got jumped by a ninja, and get owned the entire rest of the fight until one slip up and i could put him out with a submission. yes, Silva punched him. yes it cut him. Doesn't mean Sonnen didn't control the fight. i wont say he necessarily whooped him, but he let him know who he was fighting.

Now then, the post match stuff, Silva admitted he was hurt. After going back and watching, you can kind of tell. even Sonnen admitted Silva wasn't 'himself' and expected more. Will they fight again? I don't think it is necessarily fair. if it went to decision and Silva got it, much like the last time a decision went to the guy that didnt deserve it, they should have a rematch. I think whoever is next in line should get their shot, but then Sonnen fight the next guy down and then the winner goes back.

I admit that I am not well versed like you guys in UFC/MMA stuff, but I know a little, and my knowledge mostly ran when it was an underground fight club setting. anyways, just my thoughts.

I usually hate wrestling, but I liked Sonnen's. It was really active, aggressive, and didn't let up. It's nothing like Fitch/GSP/whoever Greg Jackson trains, who just wall and stall and get a takedown just for the points.

It would've been retarded to stand with Silva, just like Randy isn't going to stand with Toney in a few weeks.

It was a very good fight. Javi, I think you're angry cause of your love for Anderson. I'll be just as pissed if Shogun were to lose to Rashad in a similar fashion.

But yeah, Roy Nelson/Junior was awesome. Not only did Roy take everything Junior have, he kept walking forward, not giving a fuck! I was watching it at a strip club, so I couldn't hear anything before the main event. Therefore, I was glad to find out that Roy came out to Fat again.

The 'no sound' also made the Clay Guida/Dos Anjos fight not make sense. According to some texts, Clay broke Dos Anjos' jaw? Still, happy to see Clay win.

I thought Hughes/Almeida was gonna bore me, so I was so happy to see it end so quick and so awesome. Great sub. I thought Fitch/Alves would be boring, and I was mostly right.

The Stefan Struve KO was great. My buddy had a good line after the first round while they were focusing on Struve's lip. "He looks like Jay Z!" Word.

All in all, great show, and best of all, beer and tits during it!

Yeah, they showed in the replay a clean right hand straight on the jaw. Maybe not broken, but possibly dislocated. Either way, he fucked his shit up.

I'm not angry over like that. I am not that type of person.

I just prefer standup ALOT more than the ground game. I know the ground game, etc. I know exactly what is happening. But it is just boring to me.

Bill, Silva was stuffing takedowns. But you can't stuff them all. It was all Sonnen was really attempting.

And its MMA. Mixed is key. Sonnen needs work on his standup and BJJ. If he does that, he will be an incredible fighter. Because he has one thing alot of fighters lack: a stupid, relentless tenacity. He is very aggressive. If he can transfer that aggression to a pinpoint striking attack, Sonnen can be unstoppable.

But if he keeps fighting like that? Ugh. No thanks.

oh dont get me wrong, I would much rather watch someone get knocked out then put in a submission after minutes on the ground.

I don't think it'll go the same way at all when Anderson's rib is healed, but I was GLUE to the set for this fight, and I give Sonnen a lot of credit.

I did keep saying, though, all fight "He has no submission defense, he needs to be careful"

Big Nog is out of UFC 121 and Cro Cop is in to face Mir. Should be an interesting matchup that will go to show if Cro Cop is still a legitimate threat. I think his match with dos Santos showed his days as an elite, or even a title contender, are likely numbered, but I think he might still have something left in the tank. And I am not convinced that Mir can hang with the big 4 now either.

Also, Carwin is being linked to a steroid case. Not much information has been released apart from his name being mentioned in the case. He’s never failed a test or dropped out of a fight for unexplained reasons that I recall. But this still makes you raise an eyebrow.

From what I've read, last thing he got from that doctor was in 2006. It's still bad, but at least it hasn't happened while he was inside the UFC.

Mo and Lashley both taking losses. Very, very suprising. Mo's striking left a lot to be desired.

KJ Noons, on the other hand, goddamn. As dirty as he is, those were some awesome shots he landed. I think he got that one in the first round off before the bell* and that knee was totally illegal, but the fight was done before that.

*I was drunk, so time wasn't making sense anyway.

Yeah Noons is an elite striker. Noons said the stuff wasn't intentional, and Gurgel felt like it wasn't dirty. Not really sure what to think. I'd love to see Noons/Diaz II though, right after Diaz/Mayhem.

Dana says Sonnen is getting rematch wtih Anderson Silva when Anderson recovers. Vitor is going to fight in November I guess. I'd like it to be against 1 of 3 guys, Wanderlei, Leben or Okami.

What did everyone think of UFC 118? I saw it in the theatres, which is an awesome experience. It was a tad underwhelming as far as cards go though. Maybe it's because no one I wanted to win, won. Wasn't horrible, but 116 & 117 were so good this one couldn't keep pace I don't think.

- Couture did what we all knew he was going to do, and convincingly.
- B.J. Penn simply has no answer for Frankie Edgar's speed! I couldn't believe it, I thought for usre going into this fight that Penn was going to have made the adjustments and pull it out. I think he simply just had no answer for the guy though. Huge props to Frankie. Sad to see BJ lose like that though. I really think he'd do well to train with some more quality guys/have more quality guys in his corner rather than just yes men. But BJ will always do what BJ wants to do.
- Also quite sad to see KenFlo go down. I am either going to start betting with or staying away from any match involving world class wrestlers, cause Kenny lost me some cash. This seems like the year dominanted by the wrestling. Some guys inflict damage with their wrestling, Lesnar, Sonnen, Bones Jones, etc., but some guys just frustrate me.
- Nate Diaz looks rather beast at 155. That reach is no joke and he opened Davis up bad!

Also, UFC if finally coming to Michigan again!!!!!! Not since UFC 9 has it been here. I'm sure I won't be able to afford a ticket, but I'm going to try like hell.
