[Goal: Look aghast at Bastion's insinuation that Marcella is an assassin but salute to the Captain nonetheless. Kenning Intelligence roll to see if I know this disarming Captain as to his trustworthiness. Offer to keep weapon secured in their presence if the moment presents itself, otherwise quietly assess and observe.]

A lot of what was given in the update was really what your character has heard of this guy, steven. In other words, it was rolled for you as a passive "Id like to know more" kinda thing.

As for trustworthiness, he is the captain of the guard for the king, a man who can choose anyone.

Eshu tend to not be the greatest of fighters compared to the brutality of redcaps, the brawn of the trolls or the radiance of the sidhe. Clearly theres something that this one possesses that isnt part of the kiths birthrights. To put it another way, he must just be naturally skilled at his job.

Now that you think about it, you really dont know if shes NOT an assassin.

OOC: Ooo this ones feisty! Who put the fire up that Eshu's butt!

[Goal: Don't get killed, see King.]

IC: As the guard speaks a variety of emotions pass over the Mer's face at first seeming to settle on anger...when he finally reaches the end of his little speach she looks him over again, and laughs.

"Ha, well spoken Captain. I appreciate a guard who knows his business and is not afraid to do what must be done to ensure the protection of those he serves. Though to truely trust in you as the warrior you claim to be, I would have to see more than just your sharp tounge."
She softens these words with some subtle body language indicting not just 'weaponry'.
"At the least, you are serious and attentive, which will have to do." With a predatory grin to match his own she leans closer and releases her weapon to him.

OOC: Well that would have been a big social faux pas! Starting a fight at a party. And then I'd have a legitimate grievance as a visiting noble...or I'd just kick his ass. Would depend on my mood. Besides right now I figure she mostly finds all these little land fae kinda quaint and funny, this one thinks it could win in a fight with the mer. Silly fae, they'll learn.

Yes, well, no one ever said the Fiona dont like to make things challenging. Besides, its not a faux pas when you dont really answer to anyone and can state "hey, bitch shoulda given me her pointed stick! Now her legs broke and shes at the bottom of the stairs. Sure shes saying 'he cant kick ME down the stairs!' but you know where shes saying it? Bottom of the stairs."

Then again, no need to test THAT out. :P

[Goal: Help with translation between Quenby and Ciobru, if it is wanted]

Cosimo notices the small Nocker trying to talk with the even smaller... Piskie?

"Excuse me ma'am, but I speak English, if you would like someone to translate. My name is Cosimo Bianchi, what is yours?"

{Goal: To find out more about the Duchess and this knight and possibly get in with them, especially if they party...}

"Really... Hmmm... well I might have to look into that knight and the Duchess, Sometimes the best games are played for keep. Just cause I play cards doesn't mean I don't at least keep an eye on those other games. That Pooka can wait, I will catch up to him eventually and he will pay up, however, if I do get a hand on him, I will remind him he owes you. So what else is going on here, there has to be a party SOMEWHERE....

Helion, wondering if a Leanhaun Knight "likes to party" is like wondering if a troll "is kinda tall". Still, youve heard one thing about this duchess. She may be a good person to play chess with, but thats the only game youll most likely get out of her.

You begin your search of the Leanhaun Knight. Your hand reaches in to your pocket to rub a lucky charm, and you smile. Theres ways to make your own fun. And your own fortune.

Cosimo, as you get over to the nocker and make introductions, you note the offer is pointless. The piskie has disappeared. You frown. Still, this is a good chance to make an aquaintance. From behind her you see a large mechanical construct striding over to you both. Its rather impressive in that its realistic in shape and form. If not for the hundreds of rivets and anglular lantern jaw, you'd say it was a six foot body builder.

The construct passes something to Quenby and says "you forgot this! How could you forget this! haha. Its a good thing you have me sometimes. I came in all the way from the lab to make sure you had it."

Quenby, you are handed a palm sized stone that is a light grey in tone. Ah yes, your basklisk stone! Now you wont accidently call someone a ramrod tonight.

Holding it in your hand you think to yourself: "if one could make a stone that stops us from swearing, could one make a stone that could stop stuttering?"

The idea fills your head with possibilities. Of course! You would just need to transmute the stone you already have! Shift its properties, shift its purpose! You pat yourself around for a pen and paper.

Max and Marcella

As Bastion takes your weapon from you, (and any you may carry Max) he asks you to wait a moment. Sliding by the other two guards, he rounds a corner. You both hear a brief cough, and some words. After a few moments you see the eshus hand turn the corner and beckon you in.

(Gosh Ill just assume you guys went through all this to actually GO in, and keep typing shall I?)

As the three of you round the corner into the balcony, you pass through a curtain and are in the company of royalty. And then some.

Behold, the King! Sitting in a chair that has the chimerical overlay of a throne, the king of all that is Italian sits. He exudes a casual beauty about him, and its a rare thing to bask in the glow of the sidhe birthrights of Awe and Beauty of one so high in rank. Both of you feel the need to show your humbleness in his presence.

Ive made some rolls for the both of you, extra facts are now added into his description based on what your characters know, although it will remain known only to that character until they share.

The king has been updated.

Sitting on his lap is a beautiful satyr girl of about 16.

The kings consort is now in the NPC section

Marcella, you are introduced to the King. He smiles... beams really. You get more than a distinct aura of curiosity from him, and well as a desire. He absent mindedly brushes off the satyr, and reaches out a hand for you.

Max, you notice that the duchess says very little, but sits in a seat the furthest from the duke, one that is clearly able to see over the ledge. And of course, be seen from the lower levels. It takes a moment to realize she wants everyone to notice her there.

Approching the King with interest Marcella finds herself at a bit of a loss on land etiquette. She watches the others carefully and settles on a light curtsy, almost impolite in its brevity - bowing being a land custom she has little familiarity with. She takes her time looking over the King, and his consort. Keeping her face carefully polite she studies the emotions that flit over the king. One can learn much about a Kingdom by understanding its ruler.

She extends her hand towards him, finding herself oddly selfconcious being in such a unfamiliar form during an important meeting.

"Your majesty, it is a great pleasure to finally meet you. My companions and I are curious to see how you intend to deal with the issue of your waterways; a dangerous area to be sure."

Even as she speaks the realization that she has left her companions behind settles in. Should she feel bad for leaving such ranking members alone amoungst the land fae? Or should she relish this moment without their supervision? She smiles at the young King.

OOC: The only weapon Max has besides his fists and tongue would be his jester's bauble/sceptre which appears puppet-like, but is deceptively baton-like. The idea of such a device occured to me following character creation, so I leave it up to you whether it is in my belt, or back in my caravan on a work bench. Right, so we can go in then...

[Goal: Following a perfunctory bow, to holler most regally the proper introductions...]

"Without further ado then, and your Majesty's permission... We welcome to the
Fenice Theatre her Grace the Duchess Marie Anna Salvatore of the Venetian House of Dougal... and, as special envoy of the Mediterranean Sea, Marcella of the City of Drasch."

"My lords and ladies, the gallant and gracious, afore us is no drossy matter...

[Goal: ascertain level of crowd attention as well as noticing whether anyone of note is giving me the 'shut-up already' stare... and proceed in to theatrical presentation of the issue at hand, while avoiding staring deliberately at the king's consort.]

Steve, would you like to change your legacy?

You started as "stoic", a legacy based on being firm and determined, not showing emotion at all, and now have posted "looking aghast" and having a jesters wand?

Just keep an idea of which you want and stick with it, my friend. Its more so I know what to give willpower for and currently all your posts are the exact OPPOSITE of your legacy.

Oh and keep in mind, Im not doing this to say "haha look at steve." Im doing it as an example of saying your character creation was important, and what I fall back on if I need to referance something. Like I said, I just cant reward him willpower right now, which could become important later on.

Which, since thats important for everyone to know, means Im gunna say it openly.

The king looks at you, Marcella. Really looks at you. Over the trolls large bellowing he whispers to you, grinning. "You like to get straight to the point don't you? Very well. Sit. Sit. The show will be starting soon, and I do not think we will have time to talk.

"To make things clear, we enjoy a beauty here in this city of canals. The Glamour we take in could almost be taken straight from the waters themselves. We are fortunate. Would it surprise you to know that Venice has the highest tithes of all the land? The reason is simple. It is rich, and Glamour can be collected almost at a whim, making balefire a distant second in sources of Glamour.

"Would it also shock you to know that a large portion of that tithe then goes to your mer folk? Im sure you know of the Patto di Acqua? This is what fuels it."

I gave you a low diff, but sadly the dice werent in your favour. Heres what you learned:

The Pact of Water was one of several oaths that have bound certain fae to the protection of the city. As a member of your house, you know that YOUR entire house can be called upon to aid the city if the King requires it. You do not know much about the other 2 houses role in this pact. You do know the Patto di Acqua has been called upon before, though in long times past.

He continues... "If we lose the city, the pact is broken. By no ones will but the Realm of Time. If that happens, the treasuries of both our peoples will dry up. The Kingdom of the Immortal Calf will find itself quite mortal indeed. So yes, I have a strong investment in this. However, if it costs us again like it did the last time I think the actions I may have to take would be swift." His eyes float to the Duchess. "And decisive."

He clicks his fingers and Bastion appears.

"If this squire is doing introductions, have my new friend's companions summoned here at once. I would have my name be heard, and refuse to do it before the lesser lords. Its undignified."

Bastion turns to hasten out into the hallway before the King stops him.

"And for the Dreaming sake, could you return that armament back to the lady? Whats she going to do, swing it around in a 5 foot booth with a troll in it?"

"Ah. Yes. Ahem. Just making sure it wasnt accidentally pitched over the edge and onto some redcaps lap, my lord. Your wish, of course."

Bastion lowers to one knee and holds your weapon out, Marcella. Its clear, however, that Max is running out of words quickly to use as introductions, and your companions arent here to introduce yet. If you are going to take it, do it quickly.

Gratefully Marcella takes her trident back. Giving a little nod of acknowledgement to Bastion, she compliments him while he is still within hearing range.

"While your guard here is perhaps a bit overzealous, I nevertheless am glad to see your person is guarded by such loyal and capable guards."

She takes the seat offered by the King, dropping into it a bit akwardly (OOC: you know that look when someone sits down and expected the chair to be like 2 inches higher than it is? kinda like that) still not quite used to these land arrangements.

"I think the Mer, more than most fae, are aware of how delicate a balance we all strive to uphold. What affects some will affect all in time."

Still trying to get comfortable she frowns slightly at her chair, trying in vain to find a comfortable spot for her arms, such an akward arrangement.

"But pardon my abrupt manner, I find business is best dispensed with quickly so that everyone can relax more pleasurably thereafter. And my house has been very concerned about your waters for some time. Sinking buildings and man made reefs breed dangerous creatures that we must deal with."

Good point. The legacy of 'stoic' although part of his natural personality would make 'acting' and playing the fool, as jesters sometimes are called upon to do, unnatural and more of a hindrance than a legacy. Can you act theatrically where showing emotions is a requirement, and yet still be stoic?
More a description of his inward emotions than his outward behavior.
Max is not fooling himself. He has gone from unwanted orphan to a representative of House Fiona and Fae in general in part through his own hard work as well as through the favor of others. The costumes and accoutrement (scepter) he bears is a nod to tradition and knowing his place socially, as he perceives it. There are practical purposes to which such garnishes can be applied however; from misdirection masking ones true intentions, to the sometimes necessary application of blunt force trauma!
The stoic idea stemmed from his early roots where he portrays the hero on the trapeze of high wire, and not showing fear. In hind sight perhaps the legacy...

Paladin

You are a competitor; the brave, stalwart athlete or hero
Quest: Regain Willpower whenever you successfully overcome a challenging situation
Ban: Never refuse a fair challenge.

Perhaps that outwardly better fits his character.

[Goal: Noting the King and Mer in discourse remain silently unobtrusive. Instinctively check the 'rigging' and audience. Gravity is not the only force that may seek to sabotage one's performance.]

The rather large troll positions himself in the corner of the balcony atop the railing out of direct line of sight. Looking oddly secure in his precarious gargoyle like perch, firmly anchored by deft and experienced leg and foot work. He clearly observes those below without fear of being caught staring, yet glancing about the ceiling and walls equally as much. (Max's trained eyes examining curtain anchors for their weight bearing potential, as well as gilded architectural filigree for its merit as hand and foot holds.)

You raise a good point Steve. Im actually glad you brought that up. I guess Ill cover it from how I view things.

In all the other world of darkness games, you have both a nature and demeanor. One being how you regain willpower and the other being your outword going self, as you talked about.

I see the fae as story book heroes and villians, or supporting of those. the fool IS the fool. The paladin IS the paladin. there is no pretending, no hiding your inner nature.

I feel the reason for that is two fold. One, look at the Realms. Actor, prop, scene... all of these indicate the fae feel shakespeares midsummers night dream was correct... its just a giant play, and everyone has a role to play. They play it to the hilt.

The second being more simple. Two courts, 2 legacies, add in 2 natures and theres 4 things to keep track of. Bit of a hassle.

That being said, Paladin is a great choice for you, I doubt a single change has to be made.

We can state your character may have a sword, but didnt bring it to the function as he didnt think it was needed. You didnt buy one, so thats fair and makes sense.

And there you go.
